La Biblioteca Constructivista - Jorge Méndez Blake
El proyecto es un comentario sobre el Movimiento Constructivista, su posición actual y su posibilidad / imposibilidad de continuidad en un contexto diferente. La propuesta parte de un breve libro ilustrado publicado en 1922 por el artista ruso El Lissitzky, llamado About Two Squares, y propone una "adición" o "Segunda Parte" al libro original, pero en este caso usando medios mixtos.
Las obras de Lissitzky fueron hechas originalmente en un formato del libro y es una de las expresiones más de gran alcance del comunismo revolucionario y del arte moderno. Lissitzky, uno de los principales artistas del movimiento constructivista, creyó en el poder del arte para moldear la sociedad y en el compromiso del artista de hacer obras que ayuden a difundir la utopía revolucionaria. Este libro es una especie de manifiesto informal de los ideales de la Revolución Comunista para los niños. La obra utiliza el estilo supremacista de Malevich para contar una historia sobre dos cuadrados, uno rojo y otro negro que llegan a un mundo caótico y después de estrellarse contra él, este mundo toma forma y prevalece el orden. Con unos pocos dibujos abstractos, Lissitzky logra reanudar la política en una historia infantil moderna.
El proyecto es un microsistema que incluye algunos dibujos, una pintura de pared y una escultura / modelo. La propuesta comienza tomando una sección de la página 6 de las ilustraciones originales, que describe el momento en que se aproximan las dos plazas de la historia (De lejos, volando hacia la Tierra) un grupo de volúmenes en blanco y negro que están sobre uncírculo rojo que los hace tridimensionales. Los volúmenes escultóricos resultantes se convierten en la base arquitectónica de la propuesta, una mezcla entre arquitectura y escultura. Estos volúmenes se convertirían en una especie de edificio sólido desde donde comenzaría una biblioteca al aire libre, encerrando un amplio espacio reflexivo abierto. En un lado de la cabina una serie de dibujos daría algunas pistas sobre la escultura y su relación con el libro y la arquitectura originales. Por otro lado, habría una pintura mural, basada en una forma de panal de color rojo (utilizada en gran número de estilos constructivistas, transformando la estructura rígida del panal en una diagonal, que recuerda también al constructivismo soviético, pero en este caso creando un sensación borrosa.
La idea sería de proponer que la continuidad de cualquier revolución cultural sea posible transformando la difusión y producción del conocimiento. La transición de una cultura unificada a una diversificación de fuentes. Una biblioteca abierta.

The project is a comment about the Constructivist Movement, its position today and its possibility/impossibility of continuity in a different context. The proposal begins from a short picture book published in 1922 by Russian artist El Lissitzky, called About Two Squares, and proposes an “addition” or “Second Part” to the original book, but in this case using mixed media.
Lissitzky’s works was originally made in a book format and is one of the most powerful expressions of revolutionary Communism and modern art. Lissitzky, one of the leading artists in the Constructivist movement, believed in the power of art to shape society, and in the compromise of the artist to make works that help spread the revolutionary utopia. This book is a kind of informal manifesto of the Communist Revolution ideals for children. The work uses Malevich’s Supremacist style to tell a story about two squares, one red and one black that arrive to a chaotic world and after crashing into it, this world takes shape and order prevails. With a few abstract drawings, Lissitzky manages to resume politics into a modern child story.
The project is a microsystem which includes some drawings, a wall painting and a sculpture/model. The proposal begins by taking a section of page 6 of the original illustrations, which describes the moment in which the two squares of the story approach (From far away, flying towards the Earth) a group of black and white volumes that are over a red circle, and making them tridimensional. The resulting sculptural volumes become the architectural base of the proposal, a mixture between architecture and sculpture. These volumes would become a kind of solid building from where an open air a library would begin, semi enclosing a wide open reflective space. On one side of the booth a series of drawings would give some clues about the sculpture and its relation to the original book and architecture. On the other side, there would be a wall painting, based on a red honey comb shape (used in a large number of constructivist style, transforming the rigid structure of the honeycomb into a diagonal, reminiscent also of the soviet constructivism, but in this case with a blurred spatial effect.
The idea would be to propose that the continuity of any cultural revolution is possible by transforming the spread and production of knowledge. The transition from a unified culture to a diversification of sources. An open Library.
